WORKS OF REFERENCE„—Burke's Handbook to the Most Excellent Order of

the British Empire, edited by A. Winton Thorpe (Burke Publishing Co., 52s. 6d. net), is a remarkable new work, containing a full list of the 25,419 members of the order, arranged in their due precedence, and short biographies of thousands of them. The biographical section is so large as to constitute a valuable supplement to Who's Who and similar works. The insignia of the respective classes are illustrated in five coloured plates.
