SIR,—Is Quoodle a fortune-teller? In your issue of February 19 he wrote: Clearly it has become a matter of 'face' for the Government never to lose a vote, not even on a Friday, not even on an issue which should have little to do with party politics. I hope the Government Chief Whip knows what he is doing. I see little sign of it.

As foretold, the Government was defeated on a Friday (March 5) on an issue which had little to do with party politics. It is said that the Government Chief Whip did not know what he was doing. Mr. Bowden, I suspect, saw little sign of it.
