The best observers say that the visible panic in 1857

was no- thing to the panic of yesterday, and that even that of 1847 was lees tumultuous. A shrewd observer said yesterday that the best thing sensible men, whether bankers or otherwise, could do, was to go and ride in the Park ;—so much injury was a belated caution inflicting in swelling the unreasonable dread.
