Existentialism

Sir: In recent years there has been a growing interest in Western Europe as well as in America in questions relating to phenomenology and existentialism. These questions overlap such different disciplines as philosophy, literary studies and psychiatry, and it has been felt for some time that it would be worth while discussing these questions more systematically than has been pos- sible in this country up to now. A very flourish- ing Society for Phenomenology and Existentialist Philosophy has existed for some years in America.

It is intended to have an inaugural meeting on Saturday, 20 May, at 2 p.m., to discuss the formation of such a group. Professor Ian Alexander of the University College of North Wales has kindly agreed to give a talk on Maine de Biran on this occasion. We should be grateful if any of your readers interested in either attend- ing this meeting or becoming members of such a group would write to one of the undersigned, who are acting as convenors.
