For and against the NHS

From Mr Tames Currie Sir: Christopher Silvester's article about the NHS ('Squalid, idle, desperate: welcome to the NHS'. 5 May) contains many justified complaints.

Improving management should be everybody's business and not an exclusive task attended to by a corps of administrators.

I recommend that the NHS invites suggestions and contributions from all concerned: consultants, registrars, GPs, nurses, porters, cooks, parking attendants, tradesmen, contractors, etc., etc. — and patients.
