General Trochu has generally been thought an Orleanist. For- the

present, however, he is certainly strongly Republican. At least he said to the National Guard on Thursday week, when they congratulated him on the Paris vote, "The Republic alone can save us. If we lost it, we should be lost with it." Should he then do anything great in the defence of Paris, and so acquire, as he would, great influence with the nation, he would apparently support a Republic, and neither an Orleanist nor a Bourbon restoration.
