Above average

Sir: I have just received a letter from a Ms Susan Piper who describes herself as Marketing Director of an outfit called 'Leadership Skills Training'. This is the gist of it:

Dear Ludovic, Congratulations on your appointment as Director of the Spectater [sic]: another indication of a successful career.

As you are probably aware, the more successful you are in your career, the more you will be called upon to speak before groups of people. . . .

Teaching people to speak well is what we do best. Michael P. Fennessy, our chief coach', is an award-winning public speaker. As well as coaching individuals, Mr Fennessy still speaks before two hundred different audiences each year.

If you would like to be an above-average communicator, the kind that others find worth listening to, we will be happy to arrange a coaching session. Just telephone me for details.

P.S. The first lesson is free in order for us to focus on your personal requirements.

I wonder if any of your readers has had experience of the coaching of Mr Michael P. Fennessy and could advise me whether the offer is one I should consider taking up. I might add that the course consists of two half-d4 sessions at a cost of £295 per participant.
