Career girls

Sir: It really irritates me that Dominique Jackson (Stuck for business', 14 Septem- ber) can say 'Sheer economic necessity is still the main reason women resort to sell- ing sex.' This is not true. Prostitutes sleep with clients because they believe it to be `easy money' not liking a humdrum job.

Other women who have found them- selves without money have resorted either to getting a job or, failing that, terning to the DHSS to pay their mortgage (not as hard as you think) and to support them (income support).

I'd like Dominique Jackson to state clearly that if she found herself in dire eco- nomic straits that she would turn to prosti- tution rather than paint enterprising women who quite enjoy sex with strangers (you never know who's going to come through that door') as victims.
