Gloss

Sir: I was somewhat alarmed by the adver- tisement you ran with your 23 March 1985 issue: 'looking for a production editor/sub- editor with a flair for the attractive verbal and visual presentation. . . .' Possible in- fluence of new proprietorship unfortunate- ly springs to mind (viz the Times's sad decline in style and content).

I believe the Spectator should pride itself on the sparseness of headlines and visuals; it is an elegant as well as highly entertain- ing read. Please don't alter this for the sake of catchy gloss.
