PSA's corkage

There is an interesting sequel to last week's Note about Somerset House and the Georgian Rout. The malicious' harassment of the Georgian Group by the public servants within the Property Ser- vices Agency involved the imposition of tiresome security measures, including thc prior notification of the registration num- ber of every humble delivery vehicle. Yet after the Rout, and despite the presence of security guards, 38 leftover bottles of champagne – worth about £400 – dis- appeared before the Georgian Group could rescue them from Somerset House. This theft diminishes the profits of the event, which are to be devoted to a building restoration fund, yet the PSA declines to accept responsibility and grant compensation. The Rout's organisers have, however, informed the police; it is. after all, not the first time that the activities of this monstrous bureaucracy have re- quired investigation.
