Mistaken identity

Sir: With reference to the leading article 'Home dear home' (6 August) I would like to comment as follows: Unnecessary per- sonal comments apart, I have never been leader of the Conservatives at the GLC, nor in any way connected with it.

Your suggestion that my house moves have been speculative is incorrect. It is not unusual for people to require larger houses when they have children, and even to wish to bring them up in the country. Also occasionally a change of job necessitates a move. The cost of moving is not incon- siderable but in any event over a 20-year period one would be required to modernise and regularly maintain and decorate if the value is to be enhanced over the years. This is by no means a minor expenditure.

My concern is not over your misunder- standing of my situation but that your article is misleading your readers.
