No. 531: The word game

COMPETITION

Competitors are invited to use the ten following words taken from the opening passages of a well-known work of literature, in the order given, to construct part of a narrative, essay, speech, advertisement, newspaper report or other coherent piece of prose. Up to 140 words may be added.

The words: chaplain, madly, jaundice, dis- charge, nurses, bowels, censor, volunteers, enlisted, modifier.

In addition to the usual prizes a special prize of one guinea will be awarded to the first entry opened that correctly identifies the source of the words. Entries, marked 'Competition No. 531,' must be in by 20 December.
