Sir: I support Mr Bazalgette in deploring the frequency with

which David Tang referred in the Diary of 29 November to a recently opened New York boutique, but you have now descended to further depths.

While I am concerned at Mrs Blair's atti- tude to domestic cats, we must accept that she is entitled to pursue her own career and I applaud your refraining from criticising her for advancing the interests of a convict- ed rapist. However, your publishing a Diary on 6 December by some vulgar person claiming to be her sister really does seem below the belt. The writer does not even seem to know that if a cat smells it is either ill, or not being properly looked after.

Is there nothing to which you will not stoop in your attempt to discredit the Prime Minister and his family? Come back Rory Bremner!
