An alarming fire broke out yesterday morning, about half-past three

o'clock, at the mansion of Lord Cowper, in May Fair. Several en- gines arrived ; and by their joint exertions the fire was subdued, after destroying a considerable part of the building on the side next to Curzon Street. Lord Chesterfield, whose mansion was at one time thought to be in some danger, was among the most active: he himself worked for a considerable time at an engine, and ordered beer to he distributed among the men. The house has been undergoing repair, and fortunately the furniture was not removed into it. The fire is stated to have originated from the flue of a hot-air stove on the premises.
