The fighting on the Western front has been marked by

the usur/ raids, which continue through mud and sleet, light and dark. It is impossible to enumerate them all, but on the balance the ad- vantage has been greatly on our side. At Armentieres, for instance, the German raiders failed to roach our lines. They made a mere successful effort at Loos, where they entered our trenches,

but were driven out after " heavy fighting." In one section of German trenches the British raiders advanced to the third line and found no enemy. Many of the empty dug-outs were looked up like the houses of town-dwellers who are en villigiature. Were the Germans en villigiature in Rumania ? The most successful British raids were those reported in Thursday's papers. East of Beaumont-Hamel one hundred and forty prisoners were taken.
