THE " SPECTATOR " IN VILLAGE READING-ROOMS. [To the Editor

of the SPECTATOR.]

SLR, I was much interested, as no doubt were many others, in the letter of " A Miner " in your issue of December 80th, 1922. The copy of the journal which comes into this house goes to South Australia after it has been read by the household, so it is not available further, but, surely, there are many Purchasers of the paper who could easily make arrangements

to send on their copies to the nearest institute of the kind spoken of in the letter. I agree with all that " A Miner " says about the difficulties in the path of the moderate working- man these days, and the uphill work it is to rouse his fellow- workmen to action against the extremist. The moderate, peace-loving man just stays at home, and meetings are swayed and votes carried by the efforts of the violent and zealous minority. Readers of the Spectator should leave no stone unturned to see that the wise and broad-minded teachings of the paper are spread abroad in every possible way.--I am, Sir, &c.,
