SIR,--Owing to a necessary abridgment of my article on election

law it was made to appear that the provisions of the Act of 1948 (not 1944 as printed) were intended to give effect to the recommendation of the Speaker's Conference of 1917. The paragraph referred, of course, to the Speaker's 'Conference of 1944.—Yours, &c., QUINTON HOGG. House of Commons.
