Unprepossessing

Sir: I am in complete agreement with your correspondent David Astor (Letters, 23/30 December): Wallace Arnold is a carbuncu- lar addition to your organ. His jottings are tedious and unedifying, and I resent being compelled to read his column week after week. Please remove him immediately.

You will, of course, have no difficulty finding a replacement for the despised Mr Arnold. There are any number of responsi- ble journalists who would eagerly assume his place at the back of The Spectator. May I suggest the distinguished former par- liamentary sketch writer for the Times, Craig Brown. Mr Brown may not be very prepossessing, but he's got bags of gravitas — the perfect complement to Paul John- son.
