The burlesque of Aladdin at the Princess's, called The Wonderful

Lamp in a New Light, has made a palpable hit. It is not one of Mr. A'BE.citETr's happiest productions of the kind ; for he has travestied the melodrama rather than the original story, so that the principal points in the Eastern tale are not brought out with the full ludicrous effect of which they are susceptible : but it abounds in comic anachronisms, puns, parodies, and political allusions—one of the latter, in which the prying practices at the Post-office are satirized, tells tremendously. The grotesque ad libitum drolleries of Messrs. WRIGHT and BEDFORD as Aladdin and the Magician are mightily relished ; and the clever acting of Miss EMMA STANLEY is quite in the spirit of burlesque. The spec- tacle is very showy. Miss AUSTIN, who made her debut at Covent Garden as Mandane during the management of Madame VESTRIS, is the present prima donna at this theatre.
