[Those who agree with our South African correspondent have it absolutely in their power to prevent Mr. Rhodes being again entrusted with political influence, and we sincerely trust that they will be steady in their resolve to keep him out of politics when Mr. Rhodes appears—as no doubt he will—in his favourite character of the great Amalgamator, this time not of Diamond Companies, but of Dutch and English. But the work of keeping Mr. Rhodes out of Cape politics must be done in South Africa, and not here. If the Colonists are unwise enough to let him come back he will necessarily be accepted here. We cannot dictate to self - governing Colonies who are to be their statesmen. The choice lies with the Colony.—En. Spectator.]
