Mo about Lanchester

From Mr Daniel Soar Sir: Stella Benson was 40 when she died, rather than 41 as Timothy Mo has it in his review of John Lanchester's Fragrant Harbour (Books, 6 July), and the 'American' she was married to was Irish. But, as Mo sweetly says, 'getting petty details wrong' doesn't matter so long as there is 'passion' and 'commitment' — qualities his attack on Lanchester has in abundance.

From Mr Richard Cresswell Sir: Timothy Mo refers to John Derbyshire as having 'little personal connection' with China or the Chinese. So being married to a Chinese woman and being the father of two Eurasian children is 'little personal connection'? I wonder what more of a personal connection a foreigner could have.
