Apes behaving badly
From Mr John Spiers Sir I was long inspired by Jane Goodall's research and her findings regarding chimps (`Me Frodo, you Jane', 29 June). The fact that when she cohabits with the primates, they behave like white liberals cannot be denied.
What distresses me is that when I moved in with a clan of chimps, they behaved boorishly: staying up late, drinking beer and fighting over the TV remote control. Did I just fall in with the wrong crowd?

From Mr Fred Keller Sir: I remember when Dr Jane Goodall came to Kinshasa and somehow convinced the US embassy to have the local police raid the outdoor market and seize all the chimps and monkeys that were for sale by the local vendors. Next she will be demanding voting rights and welfare for them.
