The Toronto papers mention a report, which they seem to

believe, that Lord Mayo will be the next Governor-General of Canada. He has certainly shown pliability enough for a constitutional Viceroy, and he understands Fenianism ; but the deputy throne of Ottawa is a trying position for any but a first-rate man. How- ever, he is out of the running for the far more important Indian Viceroyalty, and that is some consolation.
