In My Garden The gardener has plenty of evidence for

estimating the effects of a hard winter on insect life. He has had to be very busy—with Denis dust, if wise—on his gooseberries and small fruit. He has probably seen great numbers of queen wasps—probably on his cotoneaster flowers —and daddy long-legs are legion. On the other hand, roses have seldom—at any rate in some districts—been quite so free of green fly. They are as few as the greed caterpillars are multitudinous on the oaks.
