DURING the election campaign, Mr Kin- nock has given detailed thought to the presentation of himself. One aspect of this presentation is the impression of physical activity. He runs up and down steps, he appears to punch friends of his or to slap them on the cheek. Particularly irritating is his gesture as he enters a hall full of supporters. Before he starts his run, he raises his fist sharply twice as if he were pulling a recalcitrant lavatory chain. This sort of thing is supposed to prove that is, as he says, 'part of the age which I have to serve'. Unfortunately, it does prove it.
