Array and Navy Magazine. (W. H. Allen and Co )—This

maga- zine is an interesting illustration of the wide range of our military and naval interests. Mr. C. T. Bnckland tells the story of how he served in the Calcutta Volunteers during the Indian Mutiny ; Captain C. B. Norman tells a "Tale of the Punjaub Frontier," under the title of "The Baptism of the Martini-Henry Rifle ;" and another writer makes some curious revelations about "Soldiering- in Jamaica." That fertile island has a soil, it would seem, peculiarly suited to jobs. The leading article is on 'Modern Naval Questions ;" Colonel Spald- ing draws an interesting parallel between Poland and Ireland with a moral that is too likely to be true. "After Frceachwiller" is a curious episode of the Franco-German War,—a French peasant drowning himself rather than show a ford to the invaders. It is a very read- able number.
