Railway alert

Sir: While public opinion has now been widely alerted to the very real danger of a drastic contraction in this country's railway system, much work remains to be done to persuade the Government to adopt a more constructive approach and abandon policies which, if persisted in, will condemn the railways to an irreversible decline.

The No Rail Cuts campaign, which was launched by the three rail unions and the environmentalist group Transport 2000 in December, would like to hear from any Spectator readers who feel strongly about the future of the railways.

Would they please write to me for further information and details of how they can make their views known to the Government.
