Attention was called in the House of Lords on Tuesday

by the Archbishop of Canterbury to the distressing Report recently submitted by Dr. Roth, Native Protector for Queensland, who had been appointed by the Governor of Western Australia to conduct an inquiry into the condition of the aborigines in the northern portion of that province. Lord Tennyson said that a great wave of indignation had swept over Australia in consequence of the revelations of Dr. Roth, whom he described as well known to himself as a fearless and straightforward man. The Duke of Marlborough, while admitting that the Report revealed a most deplorable state of affairs, pointed out that the inquiry had not been forced upon the Government of Western Australia from outside, but was undertaken on their own initiative. All Dr. Roth's recommendations would be embodied in a measure to be introduced into the Parliament of Western Australia by the Ministry.
