WHAT HAPPENED

SIR,—Having read Mr. Anthony Judge's letter, we can but sympathise with Mr. Judge at the public display of his ignorance. Does he realise that we live in a democracy where the voice of every 'outpost' is as important to the general welfare of our society as the voice of England? To call Scot- land and Wales outposts insults the intelligence and national integrity of the Celtic races. We 'think it only fair that Mr. Judge should apologise, through the medium of the Spectator, and retract this un- warranted statement.
