Wine stories

Sir: I write appealing that you can find a small corner to reproduce this letter. I hope, eventually, to write a modest book looking mainly at the lighter side of anything alcoholic — anecdotes, experi- ences, embarrassing moments, whatever; no matter how loosely connected with wine, spirits or ale; at home and abroad, in the catering trade, individual experiences, either on the receiving end or when enter- taining, home-made or commercially pro- duced.

There is already a wealth of technical writing on the production and appreciation of alcoholic beverages, but the lighter moments frequently go unrecorded. Given the material, I hope to redress such im- balance.

I have been a speaker and writer on wine in an unpretentious way for some time now and I am also a qualified but non-practising sommelier. Now, unfortunately, I am disabled and writing is almost my full-time occupation — but my appeal is not for sym- pathy, just material to get my teeth into! I cannot undertake to acknowledge every- thing I receive; but if any contributor wishes to remain anonymous I will certainly respect that fadt — as indeed I would any particular establishment. All I want to do is to amuse people with the book — not start a vendetta!
