Of variations adapted to the voice we have spoken in our review of those which were written on this Air for Madame Marannast. For all such performances we have the most unqualified contempt. To varia. tions for instruments the same objection does not apply, and these are excellent of their kind. They belong not to the scrambling and jumping School of pianoforte exercises, but are within the reach of all who have any pretension to the character of pianists.
