The,week's debate in the Italian Parliament has ended in a

great triumph for the Government, 232 against 79. Baron Ricasoli and his colleagues have gained greatly by being put on their defence. Their three dangerous enemies are Austrian ambititn, Neapolitan self-indulgence, and lying Rumour. The fiEsLtheyeare raitidly preparing to meet ; the second they are 'itovilY- endeavouring to curb ; the last evades their grasp like a phantom and yet cripples the influence of Italy in Eu- rope by the fables of disunited councils and intestine troubles which it sows abroad. Perhaps the winged falsehoods which fly northwards in such fatal hosts from Rome herald the flight of those wingless falsehoods which have built their nests on the Vatican and the Quirinal.
