Son.)—This is a pretty little story, told in a particularly lively fashion. One need not inquire too closely into the probability of the incidents. The world would certainly be much happier if benevolent persons like Mr. Dighton were more common. Bene- volent persons, indeed, we have had the pleasure of knowing, but none who were able and willing to do good on the scale that was practised by the benefactor of the old bookseller and his little grandchild.
