PROXY VOTING.

"beg to take exception to the following sentence in the , "News of the Week" in your edition of the 30th ult.—viz., "The proxy system is generally reported to have broken down ... partly through the indifference of their officers." In this unit my com- manding officer and I both addressed the melt on the importance of voting by proxy, and as this was not productive of results, we paraded the battery, and handed each man a registration postcard and a proxy form.
