The day is past, we suggest, when rebellious youth in

its revolt against Victorian sentimentalism. would -likewise jettison such ,homely‘pargo_ as was. proyided by our greater eighteenth or nineteenth century writers. We welcome therefore a new and illustrated edition of The Visor of Wakefield (Harrap, 15s.). Oliver Goldsmith at last comes in for a piece of good fortune, these illustrations by Arthur Beckham being quite claiming. It is a most satisfactory gift book.
