OTHER NOVELS

The Crowded Street. By Winifred Holtby. (John Lane. 7s. 6d. net.)--The heroine of this novel exclaims towards the end of the volume, "Why does not somebody write a book about someone to whom nothing happens, like me ? " This, indeed, is the keynote of the story, for Muriel Hammond, with all her longings to play an active part, remains only a spectator of life. The scene of the book is set in Yorkshire, and contains much careful observation and pleasant writing.
