The Eighth Volume of the History of England, in Lardner's

occupied xvith the reign of JAMES Cabinet Cyclopedia, is entirely the Second and the first year of WILLIAM and MARY. It nar- rates the events clearly and fully, with ample information on many of the minute circumstances; but, like the former volumes, it is less of a history than the pith of the materials for a history. The proximity of the events to our own time, or rather their influence upon the existing state of the constitution, and the number of anecdotes of the period which have been preserved awl which the writer has freely used, render the book interesting reading.
