Many years ago there were works for refining salt at Belfast; but as the rough salt had to be imported, the scheme dirt not "pay," audit was abandoned. Extensive salt-works have filet been formed under happier auspices : salt-mines were recently discovered at Duncrue, near Belfast; and the raw material is conveyed from these mines by rail to the works at Belfast. Both the mines and the salt-works promise to be very suc- cessful as mercantile speculations.
