Mr. Spaulding, who is the Professor of Philosophy at Princeton University, runs through a great number of human problems and tries to find some reasonable solution for them which will appeal to the ordinary citizen. . The book raises in many different ways the problem of determinism and freedom ; and Professor Spaulding, anxious as he is to be just to the determinists, seizes always on the logical contradictions inherent in the theory, or points out the slender but all- important exceptions to it.
