The result of the Oxford by-election, caused by the unseating

on petition of Mr. Frank Gray, was announced on Friday :- Capt. R. C. Bourne (Con.) .. • • .. 10,079

Mr. C. B. Fry (Lib.) 8,237 Mr. K. M. Lindsay (Lab.) .. . 2,760 Con. majority .. 1,842

The result at the last General Election was :— Mr. F. Gray (Lib.) .. . 12,311

Capt. Bourne (Con.) .. 9,618

It will be seen that the intervention of a Labour candidate very likely just gave Captain Bourne the seat. On the other hand, the Liberal and Labour polls together are not so large as Mr. Frank Gray's at the General Election, while the Conservative candidate has slightly increased his poll. All three candidates were, it will be recalled, old Blues, Captain Bourne for rowing, Mr. Lindsay for association football, and Mr. Fry for almost everything.
