The St. George's By-Election On Wednesday Mr. A. Duff Cooper

was nominated as the official Conservative candidate for St. George's, and Sir Ernest Petter as the Independent Conservative candidate. There is no Labour or Liberal candidate. The constituency is being drenched with torrents of re- crimination as in the East Islington and other recent by-elections. Sir Ernest Petter does not seem to disagree with Mr. Duff Cooper on any great matter except the leadership of Mr. Baldwin. Mr. Duff Cooper is a very loyal defender of Mr. Baldwin and Sir Ernest Petter kills Mr. Baldwin. with his mouth a hundred times a day. Although Sir Ernest is said not to be the nominee of Lord Beaverbrook and Lord Rothermere, he has the rapturous support of their newspapers, as well as of the Empire Crusaders and the United Empire Party. * * *
