Eyes left

Sir: We were very interested in Mr Nigel Lawson's comments on the left-wing slant on BBC 2 ('Spectator's notebook,' 7 March). This is not a question of hysterical 'reds under beds,' but our experience is that this applies also to many features on industry.

In the past we have drawn the attention of the BBC to this and asked for a correct balance. Their reply has been that they are not respon- sible for vetting, the political balance of pro- grammes and that it is our job to produce evi- • dence. It is surely the BBC'S responsibility to carry out some regular and accurate forth of assess- ment of the political weighting of programmes.
