Sin.,—The question asked by "T. M. W." regarding the side British troops are to take in the event of civil war in Ireland, is one which has often suggested itself to my mind. Like the Archbishop of York and many other ecclesiastics, Protestant and Catholic, I began life as a soldier, and am now a Catholic priest. Were I now, as I was thirty years ago, in the service, and were I called upon to fight against the Unionists of Ulster, I should resign my commission.—I am, Sir, &c., M.A. (Oxon.)
