BRITISH FUNDS STRONG.

ON the whole, the tendency of the Stock Markets during the past week has been somewhat more favourable to holders of securities. It has certainly been favourable to holders of British Government and kindred stocks, which continue to be under the influence of abnormally cheap money and the prospect of its continuance. The recent new issue of 3 per cent. Treasury Bonds was well contrived by the authorities in the sense that while the price was cut rather fine it had the effect of strengthening further Government securities, and that, of course, is an all-important point at the present time, in view of the hopes entertained of a successful conversion of the 5 per cent. War Loan. In other markets prices have moved more uncertainly, but even some of the speculative departments have shown a slightly better tendency.
