In Southern India. By Mrs. Murray Mitchell. (Religious Tract Society.)

—Mrs. Murray Mitchell is the wife of a missionary working in the Madras Presidency, and this book records her im- pressions of a visit to the churches of Southern India. It is there that mission work was first carried on, and there that it can show the most satisfactory results. The visit had been, the writer tells us, a long-expected pleasure, and it did not disappoint. One result of the journey is the very pleasing volume before us,—a bright, sympathetic account of a work in which the writer feels, of course, the keenest interest, and of which she is well qualified to judge. The work of the Madras Missions is, of course, the main sub- ject of the volume ; but we get incidentally lively and agreeable little sketches of scenery and manners.
