Gravitas, Please

SIR,—Of course it does not matter much who killed Kennedy if the assassin were one of those im- probable persons described in your piece `Gravitas, please' (Spectator's Notebook,' September 30). If, however, the Dallas police or a well-known right- wing group were involved, though be it indirectly, the question matters very much both for the present American administration and for the international reputation of the United States.

Mr Lawson, sir, you surely did the whole problem a great injustice by quoting absurd examples to illustrate a serious opinion.
