Sin,—Are you quite sure that the Sadducees positively as- serted "extinction at death" (Spectator, September 7th) ? As I read their position, they denied resurrections into this present life, occurring in their own day ; as likewise appari- tions of angels or spirits under contemporaneous conditione. They admitted that such things had occurred in the past as testified by Holy Writ. Is there any proof, or even sugges- tion, that they denied the doctrine of Sheol? Their position seems analogous to that of those Protestants who affirm that miracles have happened, but do not happen now.—
