" HOWLERS."

[To THE EDITOR Or THE " SPECTATOR."] SIR,—The following "howler " occurred in an English examina- tion at the Royal Naval College, Dartmouth, during-My last term there. In writing an account of the story of Macbeth a cadet said: " . . . until Burnham Wood should come to Dunsinane. But Burnham Wood did come to Dunsinane, and stayed there for the night." Also this, which, though perhaps not exactly a " howler," is rather choice: " `Is it a dagger that I see before me? ' exclaimed Macbeth, and on closer inspection he came to the conclusion that such was indeed the case."—I am, Sir, &c.,
