The political atmosphere during the past week has been less

noticeably charged with rumours of an approaching General Election. We hope that this may mean that the Prime Minister is weakening in his desire for such a dangerous expedient. A General Election would mean that a safe situation would be changed for a doubtful, and possibly a disastrous, one. It is evident to all at the present moment that the nation is intent upon winning the war. Many good judges think that there never was a time when the nation was so united on the necessity of beating Germany decisively. Why then change this certainty for a wild speculation ? We hope that the Prime Minister is being intimidated by the prospect, even though there is the possibility that particular results of an election might gloriously serve his political purposes.
