Pith columnist

From Audrey Flanagan Sir: When Mary Wakefield has won as wide a following and as many columnist and interviewing awards as Lynda LeePotter has, she may be in a position to criticise her (`She must be joking', 31 August). The reason Mrs Lee-Potter is so universally admired is that she vigorously and clearly articulates what many people think but do not often care to say. In fact she articulates much of what The Spectator appears to think, in honest, plain unambiguous language. Long may she continue to do so.
